Mary Kiio of Roshani Consultancy Services in the month of November 2015 got the opportunity to develop training materials and train humanitarian actors and media for BBC Media Action Kenya and Somaliland on El Niño preparedness.
The two day trainings that were held in the various countries respectively were aimed at understanding El Niño related risks and likely impact on affected communities, and how communication can support preparedness and response efforts. It provided an opportunity to appreciate efforts already in place and also to understand some gaps in meeting communication needs of the affected communities.
The training was keen to ensure that there were various exercises that encouraged media and humanitarian teams on how to work jointly to package information for affected communities likely to be affected by El Nino.
